Newborn Sessions - Which kind of session is right for you?

Updated: Mar 7

Newborn sessions are the sweetest gift that you can give to yourself and your family. I promise they are images that you will cherish forever. My passion is capturing your story, your bond, and your love and joy. My goodness, our babies grow and change so quickly. It is such a joy to capture them when they are truly their tiniest.

Introducing Lifestyle Newborn Sessions

Lifestyle images show your bond, your love, and your family's story at this precious moment in time.

I've noticed a trend with my clients: most of my clients agree that they would like to have just a few pictures with them included in their session and - every single time- their family images are their absolute favorites. The most printed, given as gifts, hung on their walls, and featured in their baby's album. I'm not surprised! These images show such a special time in your life. The posed images are adorable, but the lifestyle images show your bond, your love, and your story.

If you're going to have your photo taken within two weeks of giving birth, then let a professional help you look and feel your best. Plus, these images aren't just for you, they're for your baby when they're grown, and for your family to enjoy for years and years to come.

I'm happy to bring any clothing, swaddles, or accessories (like headbands, etc) that you may wish, but for the most part, it's just me and my camera- there to focus on you and your family, enjoying a relaxed session in the comfort of your home. I'll guide you to help you look your best, then I'm going to step back and let you be. The goal is to capture this moment in your life, as you are now.

Studio Newborn Sessions

We'll discuss in detail ahead of time what your favorite newborn images are, what you'd love to see, what props and colors make your heart sing - and if you're not sure then not to worry, I've got this.

These sessions are primarily focused on photographing your newborn in a variety of poses, props, and setups (some of which I'll make by hand, just for you!). Siblings and family images are of course included but aren't as much of the focus. If you're looking for more of a blend then the Lifestyle + Posed might be an option worth considering.

Posing a sweet little newborn is slow, patient, gentle work. I never rush; your baby will need breaks for changes, snuggles, and feedings. I work efficiently and calmly and allow the time needed to help your baby relax into a pose.

These sessions require more time in both the session and with post-processing (editing) so the pricing structure is a little different, but not to worry - I've worked hard to have something for everyone.

That all sounds lovely... but are newborn sessions safe?

My most heartfelt and resounding yes. I take every precaution I can think of to keep you and your newest little love as safe as possible during our session. Your baby's safety and comfort - and therefore your comfort- are of the utmost importance to me and every safety measure I take is for my peace of mind just as much as yours. I cherish my youngest clients. Your images aren't for my portfolio - they're for you.

I am completely up to date with all my shots, boosters, etc, and I'm happy to wear a mask for any clients who request it. All of my equipment and props are thoroughly checked and sanitized and any cloth items are washed in a baby-safe detergent. I'll wash my hands thoroughly before handling your sweet baby. I will not wear any jewelry that could scratch your baby or wear any perfume that could irritate them. If there are any additional precautions you wish me to take, just ask. Truly, no ask is too much.

Most importantly, I'll handle your baby with care. I've been trained by several professional newborn photographers and in each workshop safety is a top priority. What to look out for, what it could mean when your baby does this or that - if they resist a pose - to follow their cues - and make the session comfortable, warm, and safe for them. Poses and pictures come second - always. I've had two kiddos of my own, seven nieces and nephews, bunches of friends' babies, and of course, clients' babies that I've cared for and handled with utmost care. I'm a super calm person and your session will be stress-free in every way I can make it.

I'd love to know, what questions you have. Which type of session is your favorite?
